This Bob Ross–Inspired Pregnancy Announcement Deserves an Award

When we were kids, a pregnancy announcement was when your mom called your grandma and said, "Hey, I'm having a baby!" But, in the age of social media, announcing a pregnancy is a much bigger deal. How you choose to reveal your pregnancy says a lot about who you are as a couple, and what kind of parents you'll be. Some go over the top, with handmade Rube Goldberg contraptions or balloons full of colored glitter. But one couple decided to take a more zen approach to announcing they're expecting, with the help of everyone's favorite chill artist.

In a viral photo shared on Reddit, a smiling dad-to-be rocks a curly wig and a paint palette that's reminiscent of the one and only Bob Ross. His pregnant partner holds a sign that says they're expecting in October 2017, while the Bob Ross look-alike paints a sonogram on her stomach. The photo's caption even steals one of Ross's signature lines from his show The Joy of Painting. It reads: "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."

It's uncanny, right?

The photo was shared by a friend of the couple's, and it's already been viewed over 22,000 times. Not only is it hilariously creative, but you also kind of have to admire the way this couple keeps it real. If their photo caption means what I think it means, they got pretty honest about the circumstances surrounding their "happy little accident." As the fellow parent of an unexpected baby, I can't think of a better way to share the news.

I have to admit, I didn't even bother with a fancy pregnancy announcement when I got pregnant with either of my kids. Every announcement idea I saw online just seemed so twee and kind of made me want to roll my eyes. I love looking at other people's pregnancy announcements, but I'm definitely not the sentimental type. Who knows? Maybe if I were as creative as these two, I would've been inspired to up my pregnancy announcement game.

Hopefully they continue to share their creativity with the world post-baby, because something tells me this kid is destined to have some seriously amazing photo shoots as he or she grows up.
