Lady Gaga jigaboo

There are cringeworthy moments in news morning shows, and then there’s what happened today when Fox 8 Fox News Ohio’s Kristi Capel attempted to praise Lady Gaga's performance at the Oscars last night. The goof happened when her co-anchor Wayne Dawson reported that singer Lady Gaga had performed a tribute for the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music at Sunday night’s Oscars. That’s when Capel expressed her surprise over Gaga’s natural singing talent — but she used a certain phrase earned a major reaction from Dawson. Here’s what she said:

It’s hard to really hear her voice with all the jigaboo music — whatever you want to call it — jigaboo!

Capel has since apologized via Twitter:

Just going out on a limb here, but I’m thinking that if you’re a news reporter doing a live telecast, that’s probably not the best time for you to expand your lexicon with exotic phrases that may or may not be hugely offensive. Then again, Kristi Capel represented Missouri in the Miss USA pageant in 2006, and you know how those pageant girls are known for thinking on their feet:

Do you think she just didn't know what the phrase meant, or what?
