Rat on Train Causes Hysterical Mass Panic During Morning Commute (VIDEO)

New York City is a great place to live. There's culture. There's the best food in the world. It's exciting 24/7. But there are also a few downsides -- like RATS. Official surveys have put the rat population at 58.9 kajillion, which is 32.6 billion rats for every one person. True fact! Okay, maybe it's not quite that high, but it sure feels like it. But for the most part, your interaction with rats is limited to avoiding big garbage piles at night and staring down at them from the safe confines of a subway platform as they scurry along the tracks. Occasionally, however, some of them decide to get more up close and personal. Like this long-tailed fella who needed to get to Brooklyn and hopped on the downtown A.

A subway rider who took video of the ratcident says he heard a passenger scream "RAT!" as he was getting on the train. But then the doors shut closed and ... cue Jaws theme music.

New Yorkers are, however, some of the coolest, toughest, most unaffected people in the world. Celebrities move here just because no one screams, "Oh my god, that's Madonna!" when she walks down the street. It's like, "Yo, Madonna. That last album? Eh!"

So you can be sure that the rat did little to affect the jaded people of the toughest town in the -- ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?! This is a RAT we're talking about! And it's ... IN.THE.SUBWAY.CAR.

Of course, these jaded city folk totally lost their shit. Check it out:

Unless it's a terrorist attack, you generally do not see so many New Yorkers fleeing from the same thing. Sure, there were a few really hardened ones in the back who kept reading their newspaper like nothing was going on, but most people were screaming and standing on their seats. STANDING ON THEIR SEATS. (Thank god this train wasn't that packed. I can't imagine the stampede that would have ensued if people had nowhere to get off the floor.)

Rat, I just have to hand it to you, man. You are one badass dude getting dozens of New Yorkers to simultaneously give up their subway seats.

What would you have done?
