'I'm Actually Really Smart' Shirt Treats Girls Like They're Stupid

At a time when girls make up the majority of college campuses and continue to pursue careers in traditionally made-dominated fields, it's sad when a piece of clothing makes a sad attempt at knocking them down. Forever 21 just debuted a muscle tee that reads, "I'm actually really smart" and completely misses the point.

While this may not be the most controversial shirt in the company's history -- they once produced an "Allergic to Algebra" and "Straight Outta Compton" edition -- it does promote the idea that women cannot be both beautiful and smart.

Here's a newsflash to the creators, brainstomers, designers, and production staff who helped put this shirt on the shelves: girls can be both beautiful and smart, and by implying that they're "actually" intelligent despite their fashionable choices and outward presentation is entirely false.

Not only do girls not need a shirt that tells them that they can be both, they don't need a shirt that tells other people that they can be both.

Yes, it might be easy to look at the shirt and say that they're actually pointing out that ladies and intelligence go together, but if that's the case, why isn't there one in the men's section?

Teaching our girls that they're intelligent human beings who should be respected in school and work, is the goal of every parent. And apparel like this only sets us back.

What do you think of this shirt?
