Wow. Just wow. There comes a moment in every parent's life when they're just so proud of their kid that they could burst, and right now, that's how Jacob Lescenski's parents must be feeling. Lescenski, a Las Vegas high school student, decided to ask his gay friend, Anthony Martinez, to their prom. Lescenski asked Martinez with a fantastically creative sign that read, "You're hella gay, I'm hella str8, but you're like my brother, so be my d8?"

Martinez, who's on student council and is often on the planning end of school dances, was lamenting on Twitter that he didn't have a date to prom. And, after Lescenski's original date fell through, he thought, "Why not?"

Martinez said said yes to Lescenski and said of his friend: "He’s a real man. Given that he has the guts to fulfill my gay student council dream of always helping out planning dances, and never getting asked. I couldn’t ask for a better person in my life."

So often we're hearing stories of gay high school students who are disappointed because they don't have a date for prom -- or worse, that they're bullied for being gay. It's so uplifting and encouraging to hear about a kid who just wanted to help his friend out and didn't care what people thought.

I have a son and would be thrilled if he grew up and did something like this. As parents, we want to raise kids who have confidence, conviction, and the ability to stand up for what's right -- even if that means going against the grain. Clearly, Lescenski has all of those things. His parents should be proud. And they should give themselves a pat on the back for raising such an awesome kid.

What do you think of this?
