Boy's Heartbreaking Letter to Santa Gets Him an Invite to State of the Union

teen's letter to santa obama asking for safetyWhen 13-year-old Malik Bryant, from South Side Chicago, sent President Barack Obama a letter from Santa, he bravely asked for safety for himself and his family. And now, the seventh grader will join First Lady Michelle Obama as her VIP guest at the President's annual State of the Union speech tonight.

It all started with this one letter, which Bryant submitted as part of Direct Effect Charities' annual Letter to Santa campaign:

But little did Bryant know that he would receive a return letter from the big man himself. In this case, the President of the United States.

And now, Bryant will take his seat beside the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, Valerie Jarrett (the President's senior advisor), and Michelle Obama's other invited guests. Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.

Looks like he can add another amazing accomplishment to his growing list!

Watch the State of the Union tonight, January 20, at 9 p.m. EST.

Will you be watching the State of the Union tonight?
