72-Year-Old Grandpa Dresses in Drag to Help Granddaughter's Business

When my kids were little, they had an awesome picture book called "The Grandpa Book" (by Todd Parr). The message was simple, but so true. An excerpt:

Some grandpas have a lot of pictures of you/Some grandpas put extra money in your piggy bank/Some grandpas put extra marshmallows in your hot chocolate/All grandpas like to tell you stories.

If Todd Parr knew about 72-year-old Liu Xianping when he wrote "The Grandpa Book," the next page would most certainly have read:

Some grandpas model teenage girl fashions online for their granddaughter's boutique and become unlikely overnight sensations.

Because that's exactly what this uncommonly cool grandpa did! See, Liu Xianping's granddaughter (along with four friends from college) started a clothing line for teen girls in China. Xianping was helping the girls unpack inventory one day when, according to his granddaughter, "He picked up one piece and tried to give some advice on how to mix and match."

Which was really cute. But not as cute as when the svelte gentleman started trying on the outfits to demonstrate how well his choices worked. Xianping's granddaughter and her pals knew just what to do: "We thought it was fun so we started shooting," she says. And wouldn't you know it? Those pics went viral pretty much the second Xianping's granddaughter posted them on the Yuekou website. Tada! Instant fashion icon.

But of course Xianping didn't get into the biz to be the next famous face. (Even if he does pose like a natural. And never mind the fact that he can actually pull off polka dots and frilly socks!) His explanation is pure grandfatherly love:

“Why unacceptable for someone like me to wear women’s clothes? Modeling for the store is helping my granddaughter and I have nothing to lose ... We were very happy on the day of the shooting. I’m very old and all that I care about is to be happy."

Some grandpas are making me get all teary-eyed ...

Do you know any grandpas who would do something like this to help their grandchildren?
