Parents Build $1 Million Nightclub to Keep Their Kids Safe

nightclubOf course spending over a million bucks to build a home with a fully functioning nightclub for your teens sounds extravagant, but you know what? Claire Farrow and Ian Hogarth of London have the right idea, if you ask me. If I had money to burn, I would do the same thing.

Why? Because the reason why Farrow and Hogarth built a club complete with an illuminated dance floor and a professional DJ booth where their 16-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter can hang with all their friends is a really good reason. As they put it: "We always know where they are."

This philosophy won't keep kids completely out of trouble, but it'll keep them out of the worst kind of trouble.

I know from experience ...

I had this friend when I was a teenager. He had this basement. Or, as my old buddies and I think of it now, 20 years later: "THE basement." Because it was THE place where everything happened (and I mean everything). It was the place where everything could happen, because -- and this was key -- no matter how many crazy kids were down in that basement, no matter what we were doing, my friend's mother didn't bother us. Ever! At the time, we wondered how she could be so clueless. Doesn't she know what goes on down here?!

Now that I'm a parent, I realize she knew exactly what was going on down there -- but she also knew that if it wasn't going on down there, it would most likely go on somewhere else. And (smart lady) she figured that at least this way she'd know exactly where her son was and that he wouldn't be driving anywhere wasted out of his head (none of us would, because she always let everybody crash overnight).

Obviously building a nightclub isn't an option for most of us. But maybe there is something to be said for making your house a safe zone.

Would you build a nightclub for your kids to keep them safe if you had tons of money?
