Prosecute Under-16s for Having Sex? Teen Moms Too?

Yep, prosecute kids under 16 who are having sex, which would also include teen moms, whose sexual activity becomes as public knowledge as her pregnancy... That's exactly what one conservative minister in England is suggesting they start doing.

What do you think? Is criminalizing kids the answer to reducing underage sex and teen pregnancies?

Tory children's spokesman Tim Loughton said: "We need a message that actually it is not a very good idea to become a single mum at 14. [It is] against the law to get pregnant at 14. How many kids get prosecuted for having under-age sex? Virtually none."

When asked if he wanted to see more prosecutions, Loughton said: 'We need to be tougher. Without sounding horribly judgmental, it is not a good idea to be a mum at 14. You are too young."

I have about a million things to say about this, but it's Easter, and I'm super tired (how you like that?). Maybe you can take the floor on this one.

By the way, the poll on this article, when I read it, showed 60% in favor of prosecuting under-16s and 40% against the idea.

What do you think of Loughton's suggestion? If you think it's a good idea, what about in the cases of teen moms? And what about prosecuting anyone who has sex with someone under 13 for statutory rape -- even if the sex consensual and they're under 13 too or even under 16? How far would you take it?
