Ian Somerhalder in 'V-Wars'
Netflix

Just when we were starting to miss Ian Somerhalder and Vampire Diaries (after all, it has been almost three years since the series finale aired on The CW), this actor is giving us a brand new series on Netflix to look forward to. When V-Wars hits the popular streaming service Thursday, we get to see Ian back in action in the middle of world filled with these creatures ... but this time, he'll be playing a character who happens to be a lot different from Damon Salvatore on Vampire Diaries -- and we're so ready for it!

Here's the synopsis of V-Wars, straight from Netflix:

"Dr. Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans. As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these 'vampires.' Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires."

It sounds like a fascinating series (and the trailer looks amazing) but what else do we need to know about the show before we start watching when it premieres on Netflix? Here's everything fans should know -- most of it coming straight from Ian's interviews and Instagram posts. This guy is seriously passionate about this new project, which makes us even more excited to watch.

  • The Trailer Is Pretty Awesome

    1

Talk about action packed! So far, we don't have a lot of footage of V-Wars, but this trailer gives us all we need to know to prep for watching the series. Looks like it might even be a bit creepy (it is about vampires, after all), but in the best way.

  • Ian Somerhalder Is Not Playing a Vampire This Time

    2

Even though the show is about vampires -- and Ian has totally played a vampire in the past -- this time, he's all human. His character, Dr. Luther Swann, is trying to solve the epidemic that caused the vampire outbreak, so in the end, he's actually in an opposite role.

It'll be interesting to see that play out!

  • Ian Was Heavily Involved in the Production of the Show
