A 'Clueless' TV Reboot is Coming & a Major Character Will Be Missing

Looks like this '90s "chick flick" is coming back in a major way -- but in a totally different format. It's official: A Clueless reboot is in the works, and this time, it's for TV ... and it sounds like it's got a bit of a mysterious twist to it.

(Hint: Fans of Riverdale are probably going to want to check this out.)

  • Although Cher is the main character in the 'Clueless' movie, this time, it's all about Dionne -- and there's a mystery to solve.

As Deadline reported, it's not the '90s anymore, either. This is all happening in present day. Apparently, Cher goes missing, which makes Dionne the most popular girl in school, and now, she has to figure out what happened to her friend.

The show is described as "a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans."

OK, that's a lot -- but it sounds like so much fun to watch.

  • No word on whether any characters will be reprising their roles, but probably not, because this is still set in high school.

Today, Dionne and the rest of the crew definitely wouldn't be anywhere close to teenagers, so that wouldn't exactly work ... but that doesn't mean we aren't hoping for a cameo of a familiar face or two.

And yes, there has already been one Clueless TV series, but this one is such a different take.

  • The reboot still doesn't have a TV network home, but it sounds like there's already plenty of interest.

Reportedly, multiple streaming services and The CW are all into the Clueless series, which is penned by Will & Grace writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey.

As much as we love our streaming services, this actually sounds perfect for The CW. We wouldn't be surprised if that's where it ends up!

  • We're definitely interested to find out more about the series.

It's hard for us to imagine another incarnation of Clueless -- mostly because the original was perfect and such a classic -- but this sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

We're ready to hear casting news, though. Who will be taking on the role of Dionne?!
