Amber Portwood's Daughter Leah Had a Heartbreaking Reaction to Her Arrest

Amber Portwood, Leah Shirley

It's been nearly two months since Amber Portwood was arrested following a domestic abuse incident with her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, but Teen Mom OG is just now catching up. On Monday night's new episode of the MTV staple, we learned how Amber's 10-year-old daughter, Leah, reacted to the news of her mom's arrest, and it was pretty heartbreaking.

  • According to Gary and Kristina Shirley, Leah's main concern was for her baby brother, James.

MTV cameras caught up with Leah's dad and stepmom (who have full custody of her) shortly after Amber was arrested for allegedly wielding a machete against Andrew while he was holding their 1-year-old son.

While at a diner, the couple discussed the situation, and Kristina said, "I wish we could just wake up and say it was a dream." Gary added that he was upset that Amber had done something that affected all of them, not just herself, Andrew, and James. He lamented, "This has an impact on all of us. She didn't just affect her own self and her own family. It trickles down to us, too."

Kristina continued, "Ultimately, Leah is almost 11. She knows a lot of what's going on. I think the only thing she's said to me is, 'If Mommy goes back to prison, what happens to James? Will James be taken away from me as well?' I don’t have those answers."

  • Ugh, break our hearts already.

It's also sad that Leah can just nonchalantly wonder about her mom going back to jail. Amber spent 17 months in prison several years ago for drug-related charges. Amber clearly has some serious issues that she's struggled with her whole life. She's been open this season about her poor mental health, including trying to deal with her borderline personality and bipolar diagnoses.

  • It's unclear what's going to happen from this point, as Andrew recently filed with the court to have his address changed to Malibu.

Andrew lived in California until meeting Amber just over two years ago, and still frequently travels to Los Angeles for his work as a cinematographer. TMZ reported last week that Andrew wants to change his legal residence back to California, and we can't imagine that he'd move back without James, considering that he filed for full legal and physical custody of him in the days after Amber's arrest.

  • Meanwhile, Amber is making it clear that she misses her children "every night."

She posted this photo to Instagram on Monday night, and shared a sad message about her daughter and son. She wrote, "Every night I sit and think about my life and my children. Never once have I stopped....not once these last 2 month's. Foolish people that's all I see and then there's those beautiful souls who know better. Always sending love no matter what."

We just hope she gets the help she needs and can be the best mom possible for her kids. They're really what's important here.
