'The Office' Leaving Netflix Has Fans Ready To Boycott

Get ready to say goodbye to Michael Scott all over again, at least on a certain streaming service, anyway. It looks like The Office is leaving Netflix soon ... and yes, this is the worst news ever that has fans of the hit show ready to cancel their subscriptions in response.

Here we go again!

  • On Tuesday, Netflix announced that The Office will be leaving the service come January 2021.

    Seems it was only a matter of time before this happened as NBC wants to launch its own streaming service. (The network reportedly paid $500 million to pull it.) Still, it's a bummer, because it's so much easier to watch all our favorite shows on one app instead of having to subscribe to several.

    Besides, The Office is the best show to play in the background while cooking dinner or even just on a bad day. Now what are we supposed to do?

  • NBC's streaming service will launch in 2020, and unlike Netflix, there will be ads.

    "The Office has become a staple of pop culture and is a rare gem whose relevance continues to grow at a time when fans have more entertainment choices than ever before," a rep from NBC said in a statement, E! News reports. "We can't wait to welcome the gang from Dunder Mifflin to NBCUniversal's new streaming service."

    This news comes after reports surfaced in January that Netflix paid $100 million to keep Friends streaming for another year after backlash, but it doesn't seem as if it has similar plans to duke it out with NBC to keep The Office around.

  • After hearing this news, fans are pretty p---ed and are ready to cancel their Netflix plans.

    With a show like The Office that means so much to so many people, there was bound to be some backlash from this announcement. It's pretty clear that the reaction to this involves a lot of very, very bummed out fans.

    Maybe it's not a bad time to invest in the box set of DVDs on Amazon ...

  • Time to spend the next year and a half watching Michael Scott do his thing before it's too late.

    After that, we'll have to find another way to catch up with the employees of Dunder Mifflin. And who knows, maybe NBC's streaming service will be a positive change. 

    Guess we'll find out!
