Record numbers of people tuned in Sunday night to watch the Season 8 premiere of Game of Thrones, and finally got to watch Jon Snow learn the real truth of his parentage. More than that, the whole episode was largely about reunions, as the characters gathered in Winterfell to prepare to fight the White Walkers, who have already busted through The Wall, thanks to Daenerys's zombified dragon.

Not only did Jon reconnect with Arya and Bran Stark after years of separation, he also came face-to-face with Samwell Tarly, who he hasn't seen since Sam left the Night's Watch to travel to the Citadel to further his studies.

John Bradley, the actor who plays Sam, sat down with Entertainment Tonight to explain why the reunion was so important, and why it had to be Sam who told Jon the truth about who his parents really were. Jon was raised as Ned Stark's bastard son, a half-sibling to the five Stark children, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

In addition to telling Jon the truth about his parents, he also revealed some potentially devastating news about his new girlfriend, Daenerys Targaryen (besides the fact that she's his aunt). It's going to be interesting to see what happens between Dany and Jon now that he knows the truth about his parents, as well as what Sam told him about what she had done to his family.

Only five more new episodes of Game of Thrones ever. Maybe Samwell will end up on the Iron Throne? Now that would be unexpected.
