By now, it's safe to assume that a good amount of people are over '90s remakes and reboots in general. (We'll take the Beverly Hills, 90210 revival as the original cast is coming back.) We just heard All That is being rebooted that doesn't have fans of the original show jumping for joy. Welp, another beloved series from Nickelodeon's SNICK lineup is headed to the small screen. An Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival is on the way that comes with not one but two opportunities to gather around the campfire.

  • A TV miniseries is headed to Nickelodeon that will bring back the Midnight Society.

    ... sorta.

Den of Geek reports the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival "will continue the show's traditional tropes, following the newest members of the fireside scare ..." The traditions will continue, though we wonder if members of the original cast -- such as Ross Hull (Gary), Raine Pare-Coull (Betty Ann), and Jason Alisharan (Frank) -- will be a part of the mix in some way.

  • Are You Afraid of the Dark? was the last show on the SNICK lineup that gave us chills, kept our interest, and had us throwing magic dust on fires.

AYAOTD ran between 1990 and 2000, though the original Midnight Society crew starred on the seasons from 1990 to 1996 with a new crew -- led by Gary's young brother, Tucker -- taking over from 1999 to 2000 in a revival.

  • There's also a movie slated to come out in the fall that likely will be dark ... very dark.

An Are You Afraid of the Dark? horror movie?

    Yup.

Gary Dauberman -- who wrote scary movies such as Annabelle, It, and The Nun -- is writing the screenplay for the film and wants to "honor the darker, scarier tone of the show."

"It is a completely original story I came up with, but it still has the Midnight Society and it still has the campfire," he confessed.

"That show is so important to me. I didn't want to age it down too much because for its time, it had some really disturbing episodes and some really dark episodes. Not every story the Midnight Society told ended with happily ever after or a person learning their lesson and it will never happen again. I really embraced that side of things and I think it's been a long time."

  • Guess we'll have to wait and see how it all turns out.

Even though there's no mention of when we can expect the Are You Afraid of the Dark? miniseries to air on TV, outlets are reporting the premiere will likely happen around the time the movie is set to hit theaters (October 4).

For now, those jonesing for original episodes can watch Are You Afraid of the Dark? on NickSplat.
