Leah Messer Shares a Heartbreaking Update on Daughter Ali's Muscular Dystrophy

On Monday night's episode of Teen Mom 2, it became very clear that Leah Messer's daughter, Ali, is struggling with her muscular dystrophy more than ever before. And now that she's opened up about how Ali is doing these days, it's hard to imagine what Leah must be going through seeing her daughter struggle.

  • One of the biggest reveals in the episode is how tired Ali has been lately.

After Leah got that call from Ali's teacher saying that she'd been falling asleep in class, hearing Ali get in the car and talk about how tired she was after school was heartbreaking. It seems like Ali truly wants to be able to keep up with the other kids (including her sisters) but isn't able to summon the energy. And if Corey and Leah are putting her to bed at 7 p.m. like they said, it seems like it could be an issue related to her muscular dystrophy causing her exhaustion.

  • Just from watching the show, it's clear that Corey and Leah have been trying to keep Ali's life as normal as possible.

We've also seen them impose limits on her that she's not necessarily happy about -- like when she can't play as rough as her sisters can, or when she has to use her wheelchair even though she'd rather walk -- but for the most part, Ali does almost everything her sisters do. It has to be hard for her to be too tired to play.

And what was also difficult was seeing Leah talk about how scary it is for her to cope with Ali's health declining.

"A lot of sh*t is happening at once with her and it’s scary," she said.

  • Fortunately, it also seems like we'll see Ali go back to her doctor even earlier than she expected this season.

Leah mentioned that Ali would be undergoing a sleep test to see if something like sleep apnea is the cause of her exhaustion. It would make sense that if her sleep quality is low, she would be tired during the day, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

  • Fortunately, Ali has two awesome parents helping her through this -- and it sounds like her teachers are very understanding.

Fingers crossed that Dr. Tsao is able to find a way to help Ali with her exhaustion and she can retain a bit of normalcy in her life at school and at home. That little girl deserves to be able to play and have a good time with her friends.

Hopefully, we'll have happier updates for Ali on the show later this season. It's been a big one for her mom -- what with Leah and Jeremy flirting again and everything -- and we really, really want positive things for their whole family.
