Almost one year after the fatal car crash that left Kenneth Mosher dead, there's been an update in the case involving former Bachelor star Chris Soules. In an appeal he filed on Tuesday, Chris has asked to have the felony charge -- which claims he left the scene of the accident -- dropped.

  • According to local media outlet the Des Moines Register, Chris's lawyer claims that a charge like this one -- which carries a five-year prison sentence -- could be damaging to his public image if he's charged falsely.

The court documents obtained by the Register said:

"If Mr. Soules is forced to proceed to trial and then appeal, there would be no way to undo the publicity and restore Mr. Soules to his original position ... Addressing this questionable and fundamentally unfair charge, given these facts, prior to trial, better serves the interests of justice."

  • Since the beginning of the legal battle, Chris and his lawyer have argued that since Chris didn't leave the scene until after the EMTs had arrived, that charge doesn't apply here.

But so far, the court has yet to comment on the appeal, so it's hard to say where the case will go from here.

  • His legal team also revealed that Chris was driving under 55 MPH the night of the crash, and emphasized that Chris did try to help Kenneth immediately after the accident with CPR.

“His attorneys are confident that once all the evidence is made public, it will show Soules acted reasonably and did everything in his power to provide aid to Mr. Mosher,” his lawyers told Us Weekly.

  • So far, there's no word on when Chris's trial is set to take place, so hopefully more details are on their way.
