Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s Ex-Girlfriend Makes an Outrageous Claim About Him

Say it isn't so! It's only been days since the surprise announcement that Arie Luyendyk Jr. would be the next Bachelor, but it turns out someone else may have been the most shocked of all -- his very recent ex-girlfriend.

According to a source who spoke to Entertainment Tonight, the 35-year-old race car driver broke up with his year-long girlfriend Sydney Stempfley just two days before the big reveal. The 26-year-old receptionist has several photos of her and Arie as a couple, with captions like "My actual ride or die" and "my boo." The most recent picture was in June.

One source told ET that Arie attended work events with Sydney, but "everyone hated him." He also reportedly broke up with her just two days before ABC announced that he would be the next Bachelor.

There are so many parts of this story that don't completely add up ... for example, Syd was shading Arie on Twitter more than two days before the big announcement, and it was pretty clear they weren't together. When Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss tweeted that they were still making their decision as to the next star of the show, Sean Lowe suggested Arie. The two competed together on Emily Maynard's season, when they both ultimately lost out to Jef Holm.

Stempfley responded that Arie might have trouble choosing just one lady, insinuating that he has issues being faithful. Definitely not what we want in our next Bachelor!

Adding to the confusion even more is Arie's admission to People magazine last week that he's only been in one serious relationship in the five years since his stint on The Bachelorette, and that it ended a year and a half ago. The photos of Arie and Sydney began in August 2016 on her Instagram.

Maybe she was just more into the relationship than he was? Maybe it was casual and it ended three months ago after her last photo of them together in June? We don't want to believe that Arie was playing her, or dumped her for a shot to be on TV and have 25 beautiful women fawn all over him, but what else could it be?

We're still holding a flicker of hope that this is all a big misunderstanding.
