'Bachelor' Alum Vienna Girardi Tragically Loses Her Unborn Twin Daughters

Vienna Girardi

We are absolutely heartbroken for this mama. Vienna Girardi announced over the weekend that she lost the twin girls that she was carrying. The Bachelor alum shared the devastating news in an emotional post on Facebook.

The 31-year-old started by saying that writing about the loss of her girls was "the hardest thing I have ever had to [do]." The babies suffered from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a condition that affects the amount of blood each baby receives from the placenta.

Girardi was carrying identical twin girls, and they shared a single placenta. Her perinatologist noticed that one baby was getting more nutrients than the other, and was closely monitoring the situation. However, her water broke at 18 weeks pregnant.

The babies could not survive outside the womb at that age, but she decided to take the 5 percent chance that the waters would replenish themselves and somehow they could make it to an age where they could have a fighting chance at life. "I spent the next 2 days in the hospital trying everything to save them," she shared.

She continued, "Their hearts stopped beating on day two which is also when I went into septic shock with 104 fever. My little angels went to Heaven on Aug 5th and I was rushed into the OR for emergency surgery and was in the ICU for 4 days."

Vanessa also shared that she made the difficult decision to donate her daughters' bodies to science, so doctors can study the effects of TTTS and hopefully learn how to prevent it. She confessed, "This was the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my life but I knew my little girls were in Heaven already and the pain I feel I would never want any mother to ever feel."

"RIP My Sweet Angels," she added. "Your mommy will never forget you and I loved you both with my entire heart."

We can't imagine the pain that Vanessa is feeling right now, and our hearts go out to her during this difficult time.
