Jenelle Evans and her mom Barbara have been fighting over custody of Jace for years, but did the whole thing start with a trick? In Jenelle's new book, Read Between the Lines: From the Diary of a Teenage Mom, she claims that Babs tricked her into signing over custody of her son when she was a teenager.

Which isn't exactly what we remember happening on her episode of 16 and Pregnant and the early days of Teen Mom 2, but you know. It's hard to say when your life is captured on film. Or something.

Anyway, according to E!, Jenelle claimed in her memoir that her mom "convinced" her to go out with her friends one night so that she could have some Jenelle-time and relax a little.

She wrote with perfect 20/20 hindsight, "I should have been suspicious at the time. My mother wasn't the relaxing type of person, much less the kind of woman to encourage other to enjoy themselves. Least of all me. I took the bait, however, and went out for the evening with Tori..."

She said that when she got home the next morning, Child Protective Services was there. "My mother had called them and told them I was out partying all night and left my son at home. She told them I did this pretty much every night, which was a lie," Jenelle recalled. "I tried to tell them she told me to go out, but they wouldn't listen. They gave my mother temporary custody in light my actions. MY mother had set me up and I had fallen hard for it."

We could probably argue all day about whether Barbara heavily persuaded Jenelle to sign over custody, or whether or not she was honest about her intentions of giving him back when Jenelle cleaned herself up, but Jenelle partied a lot after she had Jace. It wasn't just one night, and she was even arrested multiple times. Hardly the best environment for raising a child.

Jenelle is obviously upset that Babs hasn't relented about giving her Jace back, but that doesn't change history.
