7 Classic 'Roseanne' Clapbacks in Honor of the Sitcom's Return

Big news for everybody who grew up watching the Conner family on TV: After months of rumors, it's been confirmed that Roseanne is officially coming back, with ABC announcing Tuesday that the network's ordered eight episodes of the rebooted sitcom. And why not? Even though the show went off the air in 1997 (yup, that's 20 years ago now!), the struggles of Roseanne Barr's working class mom character -- and her husband and kids, of course -- are as timely as ever.

The whole cast has reportedly signed on to play their original roles, including John Goodman (Dan), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.), and Lecy Goranson (Becky), which fans are sure to appreciate -- who can resist tuning in to see what those old familiar faces look like today? (If the success of Fuller House is any indication, no one can!)

Mostly, though, what will likely draw audiences is that unmistakable Roseanne brand of cynical humor -- which just so happens to fit the collective mood at the moment. As Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, put it in a statement:

"The Conners' joys and struggles are as relevant -- and hilarious -- today as they were then, and there's really no one better to comment on our modern America than Roseanne."

The comedian definitely had a way of commenting on modern motherhood that still rings true today. Even decades later, we haven't forgotten Roseanne's snappiest comebacks -- in fact, now that we're grown up, they're even funner.

Here are a few of our favorite classic Roseanne clapbacks:

1. That time she kept Dan from getting a big head:

2. That time she made it very clear that she was above comparison:

5. That time she showed who's REALLY the boss:
