It has barely been 24 hours since Chris Soules was arrested for leaving the scene of a deadly accident, but there have already been so many updates, it's making our heads spin. Surprisingly, people are defending Chris, including the victim's family, and it sounds like it's going to be a long road ahead for the former Bachelor star.

Now that the victim has been identified as 66-year-old Kenneth Mosher, on Tuesday, one of his in-laws spoke to People about the accident. It doesn't sound like his family holds any ill will toward Chris; in fact, it seems like it's the opposite.

Robert Roepke -- whose daughter is married to Kenneth's son -- told the mag:

I believe it was a very tragic, sad accident that took the life of a guy that was just coming home from work. This is corn planting time, the best time of the year for a farmer. Kenny was working on one of the farms just a little north of Aurora and I think he was just coming home. For Chris, what happened was just a freak accident .... Chris comes from a good family and is still well-vested in farming. He's got a great life ahead of him. This is a serious bump in the road and I don't know about his [alleged] alcohol issue but I just know that this was a huge mistake. It's something he's going to have to deal with for the rest of his life. It just ended very tragically.

Robert wasn't the only one who came forward to defend Chris, either. Fellow Bachelor Nation alum Marcus Grodd told E! News that he'll be there for Chris during this difficult time, while Luke Pell told the site

Chris is by far one of my closest friends from the Bachelor family. We've got similar backgrounds growing up in small towns and everything so we have a lot in common and relate a lot on our backgrounds. I've gotten to know Chris and he's just a great guy that loves people who is very sincere and genuine. That's what hooks me is that, man. I just hate to hear that such a great person is having to go through a struggle like this.

According to the 911 call released by TMZ, Chris did call for emergency help before he fled the scene, and even told the dispatcher that the victim was unconscious but that he did feel a pulse, and that someone at the scene was doing CPR. On the call, Chris did sound pretty shaken by the accident, admitting that he rear-ended the tractor.

And as for Chris's thoughts on the subject himself, after the fact? He deleted his Instagram (although his Twitter is still active), and his rep issued the following statement to People

Chris Soules was involved in an accident Monday evening in a rural part of Iowa near his home. He was devastated to learn that Kenneth Mosher, the other person in the accident, passed away. His thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mosher's family.

This is such a heartbreaking situation, and it's obvious that plenty of updates on what's happening are still coming in. Here's hoping the victim's family is able to find peace in such a difficult time.
