Rachel Lindsay Is Officially the Next 'Bachelorette'

Rachel Lindsay

After years of being critized for its lack of diversity, the Bachelor franchise is finally stepping into 2017! After Monday night's episode, it became official: Rachel Lindsay is the next Bachelorette, and the show's first black Bachelorette ever.

Of course, it's a little strange that ABC is announcing this so early. Usually the big reveal comes during After the Final Rose, but this time, things are a little different, especially since Rachel hasn't even been sent home on The Bachelor yet.

But regardless of timing, we've fallen in love with smart, confident Rachel on the show, and even though things obviously don't work out with Nick Viall, we're so thrilled we get to see her journey to love continue, and it sounds like our next leading lady feels that excitement, too.

In an interview with People about her new gig, Rachel talked about how happy she is to take this next step. She told the mag:

I'm happy to represent myself as a black woman in front of America and I'm happy for America to rally behind me and see what it's like for me to be on this journey to find love. Honestly, it's not going to be that different from any other season of The Bachelorette. I'm obviously nervous and excited to take on this opportunity but I don't feel added pressure being the first black Bachelorette, because to me I'm just a black woman trying to find love. Yes, I'm doing on this huge stage, but again my journey of love isn't any different just because my skin color is.

Congrats, Rachel! We can't wait to see history being made next season -- and hopefully see her find that happily ever after she's been looking for. Is it spring yet?!
