Amber Portwood Shares a Cryptic Message on Social Media After Domestic Assault Arrest
Is she trying to explain away her recent bad behavior? Amber Portwood just shared a cryptic message on social media about infidelity, less than two weeks after she was arrested for alleged domestic assault against boyfriend and baby daddy Andrew Glennon.
Amber quickly deleted her post, but People magazine got the screenshot, because the internet is forever.
"Cheating is a choice not a mistake," she shared on Tuesday, a week after being charged with three felony counts and ordered to have no contact with Andrew or their 14-month-old son, James.
Amber was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, and domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old.
The altercation between the couple reportedly began when they couldn't make it to a Fourth of July fireworks show due to roads being closed.
According to a police affidavit, Andrew claims that Amber started melting down on the afternoon of July 4. He decided to drop her off at home to cool off, and when he learned the roads had been reopened, he tried to get her to go. Instead, she attacked him with a shoe, a claim she admitted to.
Andrew explained that he drove around with James for several hours after that, calling home frequently to judge Amber's mood. When he finally came home, he claims that she became enraged and came at him like she wanted to hit him. She allegedly threatened suicide, and even came at him with a machete.
Per the affidavit:
"Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood picked up a machete towards him and [the baby]. Mr. Glennon stated he locked himself and [the baby] into the office," the affidavit states. "Mr. Glennon stated she hit the door with the machete and kicked the door and broke the handle. Mr. Glennon stated that is when he called for help."
An insider previously reported that Amber's alleged attack wasn't "out of nowhere."
A source told Us Weekly last week that Amber "wasn’t just upset out of nowhere," and, "There were things going on between her and Andrew that led to this."
Noting that "Andrew has seemed totally different" than her ex Matt Baier (who lied to her about having fathered a bajillion children), the insider explained, "For the most part, it has been good, but lately a few issues have popped up that have made her question things and challenge her trust in him. She has been through a lot. She just wants to be able to trust someone, and there have been major issues."
Given Amber's admitted struggles with her mental health, we're taking her hints that Andrew was cheating with a grain of salt.
Amber has been very open with her struggle of having both bipolar and borderline personality disorders. Classic symptoms of BPD include raging, threatening suicide, accusing partners of infidelity, and extreme fear or even paranoia of abandonment.
She even shared on an episode this season of Teen Mom OG, "I haven't really been doing very well when it comes to mood swings. Any little thing, tiny, tiny thing, will enrage me."
Meanwhile, Andrew has filed for sole custody of James and asked the court not to grant Amber unsupervised visitation.
According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Andrew filed a Combined Verified Petition for Paternity Related Orders and Emergency Hearing Regarding Custody of a Child on July 9.
The papers state, "Father believes it is in James' best interests that he be awarded sole legal and primary physical custody. Father believes that it is not currently in James' best interests for Mother to have unsupervised parenting time." He is also asking for child support, insurance, and payment of medical expenses.
Whether or not Andrew cheated on Amber is irrelevant at this point. All that matters is making sure James is safe.
