Earlier this month, the Teen Mom world was hit with shocking news when we found out that former 16 and Pregnant star Valerie Fairman had died unexpectedly due to a possible drug overdose. And now, Valerie's family is speaking out about her death, and it sounds like they blame MTV and the show for what happened.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Valerie's adoptive mother, Janice, told the site that she believed Valerie got off course in her life because of the show, which she signed up to film without her parents' permission. According to Janice, Valerie's life never really went back to normal after the show, and it sounds like she attributes that to why she struggled so much later in life.

She said:

She was a gorgeous girl and it all went to her head. She thought she could pretty much do whatever she liked after the show. She was determined to get everything she wanted. I wish she had never been on TV. It played a big part in her death. I think it messed her up big-time. When we tried to put our foot down, that's when she left home. I don't think there was anything more we could have done to help her.

Now, Valerie's 7-year-old daughter, Nevaeh, is staying with Janice under her care, but according to Janice, Nevaeh's been living with her grandparents for a long time now. And Janice added that while Valerie had tried to make things right, it just never worked out for her.

"She has been in and out of rehab for five years," Janice told Daily Mail. "She would call and she'd come over to see her daughter -- a couple of times she went to church with us."

It's obviously a heartbreaking story, especially as more details come out about what the end of Valerie's life might have been like. Here's hoping her family finds peace in the midst of such a difficult situation.
