Something About 'Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After' Seems a Little Off

On Tuesday night, Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell's reality show, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?, premiered on Freeform, finally giving us a look into what the former Bachelor couple has been up to since they've taken their relationship to the real world. And the results? Um, it looks a bit staged, Laguna Beach–style.

Of course, we're not exactly expecting that much reality out of a reality show -- it has to be entertaining, after all. But so far, it seems like they've laid it on a little thick. Everything, from Emily and Haley Ferguson coming over to help Lauren install a toilet (???) to the drama with JoJo Fletcher's Bachelorette aftershow, seemed rehearsed. And at times, it almost seemed like they were reading from a script ... or are we just crazy?

But the moments that seemed the most real were definitely our favorites. Ben and Lauren, just hanging out, teasing each other -- it's not the most exciting, but it does remind us why we loved seeing their love story come together in the first place.

Even so, it was good to see Ben and Lauren back in action, especially away from the rose ceremonies and one-on-one dates. And it was interesting to see how The Bachelor could influence their relationship in real life. There's good stuff here for sure, we just didn't know why the premiere was so strange!

That was only the season premiere, so there's plenty of opportunity for the show to improve -- especially since so many of our Bach Nation faves are on deck for appearances. Here's hoping that the rest of the season is way better than the opener!
