It's been a year since the breakup, but Lauren Bushnell still has something to say about how it ended with ex-fiance Ben Higgins. In a new interview with Reality Steve, the Bachelor alum opened up about her split with Ben, and what she really thinks led to their ultimate demise.

It turns out -- they just weren't that compatible.

"I honestly don’t think there was one main reason," Lauren explained to Steve. "I don't necessarily think at the end of the day we were the most compatible." She added that being on reality TV was probably just too stressful for their relationship to make it. She said "coming out of a show like The Bachelor is very stressful ... Then having to rewatch everything adds a whole other level of stress."

Their spinoff, Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After?, apparently didn't help things either. "And then I think the second spinoff show was also a lot of stress," Lauren shared. "It wasn't this bad blood situation or blow-up fight -- it's nothing I can really pinpoint. It just came down to compatibility."

She also hinted that Ben was the one pushing to stay on reality TV.-placeholder

Lauren admitted that she "didn't have a lot of excitement towards" the show, but did also confess that she doesn't think they would've made it anyway. She added, "I was craving normalcy, at the end of the day. I gave up all these things and I just wanted normalcy, and it just felt like we couldn't get to that point, and that was frustrating in itself."

The couple announced they were splitting in May 2017, after getting engaged after his season of The Bachelor in 2016.

They released a joint statement that read, "It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time."

It was only two months later that Lauren was dating current boyfriend Devin Antin, and she's still salty for the blowback she got about moving on too quickly.

She told Steve that she was upset that she was made to be the "bad guy" in the situation, just because she was ready to move on sooner than her ex. "I felt bad because I’m not trying to hurt anyone by trying to move on with my life -- I'm not trying to flaunt anything, rub salt in the wound, but yes, I was trying to move on with my life."

She added she felt Ben's podcast added fuel to the fire, since he talking about her often, and even saying things like he couldn't "fathom kissing another girl" so soon after the breakup. "I feel like that almost exacerbated the situation, where again I was the bad guy and he was the victim because he had this platform where he was talking about all the ways he was feeling, which I wasn't sharing," she said. "So naturally, I'm just the person who takes a little more heat. But it didn't bother me, I wasn't angry. Was it sometimes hard? Yeah. But it didn't really get in the way too much of my life, because I just really wanted to move on."

Considering that it's been over a year, and Ben even competed in The Bachelor Winter Games earlier this year, we think it's safe to assume both parties have moved on.
