15 'DWTS' Contestants Who Dated Their Dance Partner

TV Jonathan Urbina Aug 29, 2016

Blame it on the sultry rhythms or the serious hip thrusts -- either way, it's safe to say something is sparking some major romances over at Dancing With the Stars. When celebrities put their bedazzled show pieces on and rub up against their partners, it's no surprise that feelings get tangled up in the heat of the dance.

The following 15 celebrity couples met on DWTS and either had a fling or a full-fledged romance, depending on whom you ask. Either way, their attraction had everyone talking.

1Sabrina Bryan & Mark Ballas

This cheetah-liscious couple's passion lived only in the heat of the competition. Soon after their on-screen exit, they exited their relationship.

2Shannon Elizabeth & Derek Hough

Before becoming a six-time mirror ball champ, Derek Hough tangoed on and off screen with actress Shannon Elizabeth. When the couple was ready to call it quits after only a year of dating, both stars took to social media to send out matching breakup tweets. How #progressive.

4Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough

The couple broke up shortly after doing a joint promotional interview on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. Five months later, Hough and Seacrest were dating. Clearly the heart wants what the heart wants.

5Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas

They might have won the competition, but they certainly did not win at love. Apparently the couple had such a volatile breakup that they refused to be paired together again for the all-star season. Guess their mirror ball trophy will be their only connection (for now). Doesn't Johnson resemble another celeb Ballas dated?

6Karina Smirnoff & Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Two pros and a New Year's Eve engagement was all it took to make falling in love look like a piece of cake. But when the couple didn't see eye-to-eye on starting a family, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy called off their wedding (and their relationship). No worries, Smirnoff. Third time's a charm, right?

7James Maslow & Peta Murgatroyd

The pair went on one date prior to the start of filming, which ended up being one date too many. The two agreed their relationship was better off as friends and kept it that way throughout the competition.

9Maksim Chmerkovskiy & Peta Murgatroyd

First comes love, then comes marriage, right? Not quite. It took Peta and Maksim multiple tries to find love on DWTS (see previous slides for a refresher), but once they found each other it was a done deal. After a very public on-stage engagement, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd announced they were expecting a baby together and would be putting off their trip down the aisle — for now.

11Robert Herjavec & Kym Johnson

After splitting from his wife during his DWTS season, Robert Herjavec struck up an unexpected romance with his DWTS partner, Kym Johnson. The couple's love withstood the test of the competition and eventually sent them to the altar to become "hubby" and wife.

12Alek Skarlatos & Emma Slater

Call it love or call it a crush, but after they paired for "switch it up" week, it was evident that Alek Skarlatos had a thing for his new partner. Those feelings were later exposed when his full-time partner, Lindsay Arnold, revealed Skarlatos uses heart emojis for Emma Slater's phone contact. Sadly he never got his chance to prove his love because Slater was dating another pro.

14Chris Soules & Witney Carson

Can you say love triangle? Things got heated when The Bachelor's Chris Soules' fiancée stopped attending the show just as rumors of a partner romance began to swirl. The engagment was quickly called off, and Soules diverted his attention to Carson. The alleged pair didn't last, though, and Carson went on to marry a man with the first name Carson (weird).

15Rumer Willis & Valentin Chmerkovskiy

They might have captured viewers hearts, but Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy never confessed to capturing each other's. Perhaps the rumours started because of their passion, or because fans love seeing the Chmerkovskiy brothers date their parters (i.e., Janel Parrish). Regardless, their connection was enough to make the DWTS history books as one of the most loving pairings to date (even if they never were really dating). #TeamValenRue4Life
