'Bachelorette' Emily Maynard Makes a Heartbreaking Confession About Her Past

Emily Maynard might be a happy, healthy mother of two these days, but her past was a lot different. Recently, Emily admitted she tried to commit suicide as a teenager, and opened up about the depression she suffered from.

This difficult part of her life began when she started going to boarding school in Florida, and it sounds like she was pretty unhappy there, and it's something she's talked about in her new book, I Said Yes. While promoting the book, Emily told People that she overdosed on pain pills and was hospitalized twice. But it wasn't because she truly wanted to end her life -- it was more like her way of getting the attention of the people around her.

She told the mag:

It really was a cry for help. I never really wanted to end things. I just wanted attention. It makes me sad to think about. I was so focused on the part of my heart that was empty that I couldn't see beyond where I was.

But now, it sounds like she's doing much better, and that she's loving her life with husband Tyler Johnson, her daughter Ricki, and their son Jennings, who is now almost a year old.

We're glad to see that Emily is feeling better these days, and that she was able to get through such a hard time. If you know anything about Emily, you know she's a super strong woman. We're not surprised she's been able to conquer the obstacles life's thrown at her!
