'Real Housewives of Potomac' Stars Share How They Landed on Reality TV

The Real Housewives franchise is like the gift that keeps on giving -- and we can't get enough! So naturally we are excited as the Real Housewives of Potomac debuts and we get to see the major politics at play as the community's upper crust lets us in on their inside drama.

The Stir caught up with series stars Ashley Darby and Charisse Jackson Jordan at NBC's All-Star Party at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, California -- and the women appear to have had pretty different paths to becoming Housewives. In fact, 27-year-old Ashley (who is married to a 55-year-old man) has a life that sounds like it was made for reality TV:

I was Miss DC, so my marriage to my husband -- with our age difference -- became a sensation in the DC area.

Charisse says all of the women were friends prior to the show except for Ashley, who is the newbie in the group. Needless to say, that is bound to cause some controversy, but Ashley says she has found an ally in Charisse:

She’s the person I bonded with the most. We had an instant connection. It’s a very nice relationship between us. She’s fun. She’s lighthearted. She doesn’t take anything too seriously. I’m the same way. We just seemed to bond instantly.

For Charisse, she really didn't believe a casting director was contacting her to be a part of the Real Housewives franchise. She thought it was a friend playing a prank.

I thought it was a joke. One of my friend’s brothers is a casting director. I was at Back-to-School Night and he called me up. I don’t answer calls that aren’t in my contact list. It was a 917 number. I wasn’t answering. He sent me a text and said he’s a casting director, and I’m thinking it’s my friend Andre playing a joke. I sent him a text back saying I’ll call him back. The next day we FaceTimed and I thought, 'Oh shoot, this isn’t Andre.' Someone referred me, a friend, and that’s how we ended up talking.

Considering we've just seen Bethenny Frankel appear on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Lisa Rinna has popped up on Real Housewives of Orange County in the past, we needed to know which cast the ladies would like to cross paths with the most.

Charisse couldn't pinpoint one, admitting that Potomac is a pretty unique community all to themselves. But Ashley is clearly in awe of Lisa Vanderpump (who isn't?):

I really love Lisa Vanderpump with all my heart because I opened a restaurant, she has opened restaurants. She did it with her husband, I’m doing it with my husband. There are so many parallels there, and I watch their interaction and how they deal with being business partners and love partners. I’m like -- that’s me! There are so many similarities that I can see, and it’s just so cool to watch her in action and be a boss lady. I want to be a boss lady, too!

Brace yourself for the drama, because Real Housewives of Potomac premieres this Sunday at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
