It wasn't that long ago that Leah Messer was facing some serious custody issues with ex Corey Simms, but apparently what was going on behind the scenes was a little different than we thought. In a new interview with Us Weekly, Leah revealed that she never lost custody of her twins, although that time in her life was one of her lowest.

Leah said that right now, she and Corey share 50/50 custody of the girls -- and despite what anyone might think, that's how it's always been.-placeholder

Leah said that right now, she and Corey share 50/50 custody of the girls -- and despite what anyone might think, that's how it's always been.

“The current custody situation, just honestly … whatever we think is best for them, we do," Leah told the magazine. "We are doing the week on and then a week off. It’s always been 50/50. People were like, ‘Leah lost custody’ … I almost did, but I never lost custody of my children.”

That's definitely interesting to hear, because reports at the time were all pointing to Leah losing primary custody -- but apparently, that never happened.

But that doesn't mean that the custody battle was easy for her. In fact, Leah said back then, she was actually suicidal.-placeholder

But that doesn't mean that the custody battle was easy for her. In fact, Leah said back then, she was actually suicidal.

"If anyone knows me they know that when it comes to being a mom and my girls, they are my life. They are my life," she said. "I wasn’t in the greatest place mentally and then it was affecting me physically, like it almost cost me my children. … I became suicidal. It was a struggle. I think that would be the lowest point.”

Poor Leah! We had no idea that she struggled this much, and Teen Mom 2 never showed her feeling this low.

If you're interested in this more intimate look into Leah's life, you're in luck -- she's starting a podcast.

It's called Life Reboot, and she says she's going to use it as a platform to talk about the highs and lows in her life so she can hopefully help others.

There’s a lot that I will address on the podcast. My role … is to share what I have went through and what I’ve learned as I’ve went through it,” Leah told the magazine. “Every high and low in my life … that’s what I’m most excited to share and truly help others with things that may be going through the same things.”

We're so impressed with how far Leah has come -- and we love how happy she is now.-placeholder

It's hard to hear how difficult her past was, but knowing that life has totally turned around for her makes us all warm and fuzzy inside -- especially when we see her with BF Jason Jordan. Keep killing it, Leah!
