The Real Reason TLC Hasn't Cancelled '19 Kids & Counting' Yet

Ever since Josh Duggar's molestation scandal broke a couple of weeks ago, one of the biggest questions on our minds has been whether or not TLC would continue to air 19 Kids and Counting, or if they'd pull the plug on the insanely successful reality show.

As of now, the series is between filming, but the network has pulled re-running episodes off the air. Several advertisers have already dropped the show as well, leading us to wonder what the fate of this reality family will be.

When Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar sat down with Fox News host Megyn Kelly last week, they said that they would not be hugely affected if TLC decided to cancel their show. They said they were "at peace" with the future of the show, and JB stated, "We are fine whether they film us or not."

Duggar daughters Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald echoed that sentiment in their own interview with Megyn Kelly last Friday night, with Jessa saying, "Life goes on, really. We're not a TV family; we're a family who just happened to be on TV."

Of course, it all comes down to advertising money. Several people have wondered why TLC has not flat-out canceled the show yet, including Mama June Shannon, whose reality series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was cancelled within hours of it being found out that she was allegedly dating a child molester.

Then again, we're talking about transgressions that happened over a dozen years ago, not things that are happening now. Neither is OK, let me go on the record with that.

Also, 19 Kids and Counting is a major cash cow for TLC, so I don't doubt that they're waiting to see what happens with public opinion before completely pulling the plug.

Los Angeles-based entertainment lawyer Julian Chan said the network may be able to cut Josh out of future episodes, or even address the scandal head-on to keep the show going. He said, "It would either be possible to edit [Josh] out of the show or perhaps even have the show investigate the claims in the interest of 'justice,' as I imagine some people might be very interested in that."

And then there are the ideas of spinoffs, the most popular idea being one about Jill and Jessa and their recent marriages to Derick Dillard and Ben Seewald, respectively, and their foray into motherhood. Jill gave birth to Israel David two months ago, and Jessa is due with her first on her wedding anniversary, November 1.

It's hard to say what the future holds for the Duggars right now, but one thing is clear -- TLC isn't about to cancel them until they see where the chips fall.

Do you think 19 Kids and Counting should be cancelled?
