muppetsThe best new semi-scripted reality TV show has a lot of hair-flipping and feathers flying, but it's not Bachelorettes. And it's not Teen Mom 495. And it's not The Real Housewives of Walla Walla. It's ABC's The Muppets! This is the must-see TV trailer we're all talking about.

It's been a long, long time coming. The original The Muppet Show series ran rom 1978 to 1980, a whole generation ago. I grew up watching it (yes, I am that old) and loved it. And I've been longing for its return ever since. Well, Kermit, Fozzie, Piggy, Gonzo, and the whole gang are back again. But this is not going to be the same late-1970s show from my childhood.

1. We've got something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

2. We've got fakey documentary-style film-making where we pick up on weird conversations we would rather not overhear, and catch characters in moments of crisis.

3. We've got a super uncomfortable romance between a bear and a woman.

4. We've got candid interviews where characters comment on the action.

All of that said, there's a twinge of melancholy for those of us who remember Muppets creator Jim Henson's voicing of Kermit. It's just not the same! We miss Henson, but I think the new Kermit still carries on the spirit of the frog-showman.

But we're still super excited about The Muppets -- can't wait!
