catherine giudici and sean loweIt's the April Fool's prank the totally backfired. When Bachelor star Catherine Giudici posted a "pregnant belly" photo on April Fool's Day and captioned it "17 weeks," everyone collectively freaked out. Are she and Sean Lowe finally expecting? No, they're not, but they're taking their fair share of social media criticism, and Lowe has officially come to his wife's defense.

A little about the photo in question first. As we all know, April 1 is April Fool's Day. It's when we all play great pranks on our friends and loved ones, and in the case of reality stars, their entire social media following.

Catherine, innocently, posted this photo:

17 weeks :)

And the internet collectively freaked out. Instagram users left comments like "Insensitive if this is fake. Many women struggle to conceive or have recently lost a child. Pregnancy is not a joke to many." And it continued. People criticized her for being rude to women who are struggling to get pregnant.

Then, later in the day, she posted an explanation and apology after receiving more than 38,000 likes and countless comments on the joke post.

But the newlyweds weren't done then. Lowe took to his blog to set the record straight and remind people what Instagram is really for -- pictures of our pets and shirtless selfies.

While the couple married in January 2014, they have been plagued with "are they pregnant?!" questions ever since the wedding. Now, it looks like people have flipped the script on them.

Here's what Sean had to say:

Yesterday, my sweet wife posted what we both thought would be a funny April Fools prank on Instagram. She posted a picture of her stomach out as far as she could stretch it and wrote the caption “17 weeks”. Most people knew immediately that it was a joke of course and that she wasn’t really pregnant.

It didn't stop there.

Here’s the thing: I understand there are a lot of people hurting out there who are struggling with fertility and they are left with feelings of worry, frustration, and anger. I get that. But my wife’s Instagram is not the place to voice those feelings... If you know anything about Catherine or have followed her for any length of time, then you know that she is one of the most caring, compassionate people you will ever meet. If you are one of those who are struggling with fertility, I promise Catherine’s heart breaks for you.

Even while many negative comments littered Catherine's photo, there were plenty of supporters. Statements like, "It's just a joke!" and "Seriously, how can anyone be offended by this joke?" quickly took over, and Bachelor fans showed up for Mrs. Lowe.

But her biggest supported was clearly her husband, so kudos to Sean for taking a stand and setting the record straight. Instagram is, in fact, just for shirtless pics and adorable #tbt photos. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Did you take offense to Catherine's April Fool's prank?
