'Walking Dead' Midseason Premiere Trailer Reveals New Destination for Survivors (VIDEO)

The Walking Dead midseason trailer

Q: Is it time for The Walking Dead to come back on the air yet? Huh? Is it? IS IT??? A: No. Sadly, we have a few more days to wait, but the hiatus is ALMOST OVER, you guys. Sunday marks the return of season 5, and to get you all primed for what’s to come, AMC has released a two-minute video of the midseason premiere.

The episode is titled “What Happened and What’s Going On,” and it’s set to air February 8 at 9 p.m. Stop reading now if you aren’t caught up on the season to date — otherwise, take a gander at how the network is describing the next episodes:

After the tragic events of the mid-season finale -- as well as losing the possibility of a cure in Washington, DC -- Rick Grimes’ band of survivors find themselves on the road, surviving day to day and trying to hold on to their shredded humanity and dwindling hope. Stripped of security and without a direction for the future, some of the group near their breaking point, some find themselves hardened and cold and some just try to grasp on to what little they have left. Though they are still breathing, the line between Rick’s group and the dead is starting to blur. Could there be anything at this point that brings them back to life?

The just-released clip focuses on the fallout from the loss of Beth at the end of the midseason finale in December and seems to show our battered survivors setting their sights on getting to Richmond, Virginia.

I feel like one of the awkward things about the show going on hiatus is it always stumbles continuity-wise — like, I totally feel over the whole Beth thing, but Rick and the gang are clearly in full-on grief mode. We’re gonna head to the new place to honor Beth’s final wishes, y’all! Oooookay.

Well, whatever gets them moving and away from that lingering Terminus storyline. With Eugene having admitted he’s a fraud, the group needs some sort of united mission, and Richmond seems to be it. Their travels will surely involve some drama (when’s Morgan going to meet up with them? And does it look like they return to the prison at some point, maybe for supplies?). Assuming this new destination is going to be similar to the Alexandria Safe-Zone from the comics, we know there’s plenty of excitement to come.

Are you looking forward to the return of season 5?
