George Clooney Melts Hearts at Golden Globes With Gushing Words for Wife Amal (VIDEO)

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney accepted the Cecil B. Demille Award at the Golden Globes for his large and respected body of work, but all anyone can talk about is how he gushed about his new bride, Amal Clooney, formerly known as Amal Alamuddin.

In the midst of a touching and sometimes funny speech about Hollywood, George turned his attention to his wife of six months, saying:

It's a humbling thing when you find someone to love, even better if you've been waiting your whole life ... and if your whole life is 53 years ... cue Amy, start the jokes. Amal, whatever alchemy it is that brought us together, I couldn't be more proud to be your husband.

Earlier in the evening, hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler had joked about how Amal, a humanitarian rights lawyer, had so many important global accomplishments -- yet it was George who was being feted for his work in films.

But with her long black Dior gown, white gloves, and diamond earrings, Amal shone as bright as any Golden Globes nominee.

Last year, Tina and Amy had ribbed George about his taste for younger women, and when asked by US Weekly if those remarks had nudged him down the aisle, he replied: "I didn't do it just for them."

Hm, makes you wonder if George got sick of being the butt of jokes about his inability to settle down.

His speech was very sweet, if it somewhat reminded me of those Facebook couples who gush about each other on social media -- and then are suddenly divorced and you're all, "Wait, what? I thought they were the happiest couple in the woooooorrrrrld."
