Keshia Knight Pulliam Unfairly Fired on 'Celebrity Apprentice' Over Bill Cosby

Keshia Knight Pulliam

So last night was the premiere of the highly anticipated new season of The Celebrity Apprentice. If you've been following the news and previews surrounding it, it looked like the biggest controversy would be the crazy feud that eventually breaks out between Real Housewives Brandi Glanville and Kenya Moore. But no -- who knew that Bill Cosby would be the catalyst for his former TV daughter getting the axe in one of the most shocking and unfair firings in the history of the show!

You see, The Cosby Show star Keshia Knight Pulliam (AKA Rudy Huxtable) served as the project manager for the women's team on the very first task. They had to create sweet and savory pies to sell, PLUS secure additional donations for their respective charities. Keshia's teammates were shocked that she would not pick up the phone and ask Bill for money. Keshia, clearly uncomfortable, refused and the women ended up losing. Then it came up again in the board room where Donald Trump just would not believe that Keshia couldn't call up her rich, former TV dad and get him to write a hefty check in the name of charity.

Keshia looked on the verge of tears and admitted that she hadn't actually spoken to Bill on the phone in five years and felt it would be tactless to call him out of the blue and ask for money. And so Keshia was fired. Let me state for the record that Keshia DID raise money despite not going to Bill and teammate Kate Gosselin did not raise ONE penny but got to stay. Ugh, you can watch it go down here:

Now, as we all know, Bill Cosby is not exactly a favorite of the public right now. Many women have come out over the past few months and accused Cosby of drugging them and sexually assaulting them. This has resulted in re-runs of The Cosby Show being yanked off the air, Cosby's stand-up shows getting canceled, and more.

Now, last night's episode of The Celebrity Apprentice was filmed almost a year ago, so it was well before the Cosby controversy came to a head. The whole scene bothered me regardless because no one was respecting Keshia's instinct -- as the one who actually knows Bill Cosby personally -- that calling him was the NOT the right thing to do. It seemed to me that she was not interested in calling him for reasons she did not want to share -- despite the prodding from her teammates AND Donald Trump -- on national television. Keshia was raising money for her charity Kamp Kizzy, and you could see the passion oozing from her. It was obvious that if Keshia thought Bill would have been supportive and receptive, she would have jumped on the chance to get the money from him for her cause. Clearly she didn't and no one would drop it. Not cool, not cool at all.

I'm disappointed that NBC didn't edit things a little differently in light of what's happening with Bill these days. They definitely could have taken out much of the badgering that Keshia was bombarded with over not calling him. To me it just reiterated that Bill Cosby seems to have a lot of power over women and makes them very uncomfortable. No one can dispute the unease that was written all over Keshia's face. Fine if she was fired for not being a strong project manager, but taking the fall because she wouldn't ask for money from someone from her past that she clearly has no relationship with is just ridiculous. Isn't business about trusting your instincts?

Do you think it was fair that Keshia Knight Pulliam was fired last night?
