Mackenzie Douthit Slammed for Controversial Comments About Marriage

Mackenzie Douthit Josh McKee

Oh, boy. She probably should have seen this one coming a mile away. Mackenzie Douthit shared controversial marriage advice that has some of her Twitter followers giving her some pretty serious shade. (Yeah, I didn't know she was a student at Michelle Duggar's school of hard knocks, either.)

She suggested to her fans that their husbands should be their "spiritual and household leaders" (as in you don't get much of a say in the relationship). If this were 1963, even Betty Draper Francis would be giving her an eye roll with what she had to say.

Apparently Mackenzie and her husband Josh McKee have been reading the book 5 Love Languages and taking every point very seriously. Heck, maybe even a little too seriously. She tweeted this gem right here:

As you can see, some of her followers don't exactly agree with her philosophy.

While I get that everyone's grass grows a different shade of green, this does sound a little preachy, doesn't it? While a lot of women might agree with Mackenzie, I'll say this: If I bought into this philosophy in my own marriage, it would take a lot of Prozac for me not to lose my cool.

It takes two to tango, people. We're never going to reach gender equality at work if we still allow our men to treat us submissively at home. But then again, if this works for her and Josh, who am I to judge? There's no science behind happiness.

What do you think of Mackenzie's marriage advice?
