Michelle Duggar Opens Up About the Cute Ways She Keeps 'Dating' Her Husband

When 19 Kids and Counting's Michelle Duggar shares her secrets to keeping romance alive -- and on a budget, no less -- I'm all ears!

The busy mom took time out of her super-packed schedule to answer a Facebook fan's question about inexpensive date night ideas.

On her blog, the perennially perky Duggar, who celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary with husband Jim Bob this July, says the couple definitely makes time for their marriage. And, with so many mouths to feed, they keep the focus on each other -- and don't break the bank!

Sounds good to me!

The following are the Duggars' top tips for a cheap date.

1. Take a Walk or Drive. The Duggars enjoy getting out of the house alone (that must be quite a feat!) and taking a drive or a walk together.

I can't even imagine how great that must be for them! With three children, my husband and I can barely finish a sentence. Multiply that by six and forget it!

2. Grab a Coffee or Ice Cream. Michelle knows after three decades together, the company is more important than the food or location. And because ice cream is her "favorite weekly sweet treat," it makes sense that they'd choose it for a date destination.

They must have to sneak out of the house for that one! Picture the bill for all those hot fudge sundaes if the kids tagged along. Yeesh!

I totally get where Michelle is coming from with this one. Often by the time I've fixed dinner for the kids, I'm tired and don't necessarily feel like getting dressed up or going out for a big dinner. Grabbing a cup of coffee (with or without your fave dessert) is a still a great date. It gives you a chance to catch up and it's a lot easier on the wallet!

3. Be Spontaneous. Because of their busy schedules, Michelle says it's not uncommon for the couple's quality time to "get bumped." When that happens, her hubby goes out of his way to make sure they connect.

"Jim Bob usually will just call me up on a weekday and ask me out on a date," she writes." It’s really sweet, he’ll call up and say, 'Hey, can I come and steal you away for a date?' Then he’ll surprise me and take me for lunch between his office work and my work at home."

Awww! Could they be any cuter! While Michelle notes that with so many things going on, she likes to plan ahead and always have her ducks in a row, she's learned to just jump in and go with it

I agree. Many times my husband and I have had fun plans for a night out only to have a child come down with a fever or strep throat and everything gets canceled. Sometimes it's better to just live in the moment and make a date on the fly when you find yourself with the time.

Much like Michelle, I also think lunch dates are great if you can fit them in. For one thing, I'm a lot more awake than I am at a late dinner and it's less expensive! A win-win.

I love Michelle's suggestions. The Duggars prove you don't need to blow a bundle on a date to have fun and reconnect!
