'American Horror Story' Casts World's Smallest Woman for 'Freak Show'

American Horror Story: Freak Show
American Horror Story
executive producer Ryan Murphy has announced the newest cast member of the upcoming fourth season. The story will be set in Jupiter, Florida, in 1950, and will feature familiar faces like Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, and Frances Conroy, plus newcomers Patti LaBelle, Michael Chiklis, Wes Bentley, and John Carroll Lynch.

The latest person to join the AHS team? Jyoti Amge, the world's smallest living woman. She'll be included in -- awkward drum roll, please -- American Horror Story: Freak Show. Yes, the new season is centered around a freak show, and it's now starring a woman who's just over two feet tall.

Say what you will about Ryan Murphy, the guy's obviously willing to take risks.

Amge is a 20-year-old Indian woman who holds the title of world's smallest woman, standing at 2'6." She'll join a cast of characters playing freak show performers, including a set of conjoined twins, a bearded lady, and a strongman.

Jessica Lange will play Elsa Mars, a German expatriate who manages one of the last remaining freak shows in Florida. The general plot is that the members of the show will do anything to keep the business alive, while conflict arises between the freaks and the "evil forces" who do not understand them.

Here's the tweet Murphy posted about booking Amge, including a photo of her with Lange:

The new season is set to premiere in October, and although I didn't watch season 3, I'm pretty interested to see where AHS is going with this particular story. So far it reminds me a bit of Geek Love, which I thought was fantastic. Also, gotta say, this is a pretty ambitious/sensitive subject, which Murphy must be confident he can handle without getting slammed by critics and viewers alike.

What do you think of this casting choice for American Horror Story: Freak Show?
