Just when we thought Bethenny Frankel's run on daytime TV was done, we began hearing rumors that the former Real Housewives of New York star may be angling for a spot on the next season of The View. Now, with news of the firing fest that axed Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd and reports from insiders, we're wondering if this really may be Bethenny's next gig.
A source tells VH1's The Gossip Show:
The View is looking for someone to spice up the show. Someone with lots of opinions and a big personality, and Bethenny is at the top of the list.
Well, I suppose she meets those qualifications, but still. Bethenny seems like the last person that should get the gig. Okay, not the last, but she is definitely not what the show needs.
Frankly, viewers just aren’t interested in her antics anymore. There have been reports that suggested she was “cold” and “offending” to her audience and staff, and it seems like her ego might be a bit out of control. That mixed with the negative press she’s been receiving from her on-going divorce battle and most recent custody case with ex-husband Jason Hoppy, Frankel isn’t garnering any sympathy from fans these days.
Her tendency to come off as obnoxiously self-centered and focused on her own problems more than those of her guests just doesn't make her likeable in the way a host should be likeable. They need someone more like former hosts Meredith Vieira and Lisa Ling.
Frankel has denied that she's in line for the job, tweeting yesterday:
I forgot to tell u I'm the new host of @theviewtv AND i will be gracing the cover of @voguemagazine in @tjmaxx designs. #mostgossipisbs

She followed that up with:
Funny. I'm getting more attention for a talk show that I'm not on & haven't been offered than one that I'm actually on. #lessworkmolove

So either she's playing coy or she truly realizes it wouldn't be a good fit. In any case, she (and viewers) would be best served if she sticks with what she does best -- her Skinnygirl line. Or perhaps she could return to her roots. We hear there are more than a few spots opening up on Real Housewives of New York.
