[UPDATED] 'Bachelor' Juan Pablo Galavis' Gay Bashing Could Ruin Him Completely (LISTEN)

juan pablo galavis bachelorUPDATE: Juan Pablo has issued an apology via his Facebook page, noting, "The comment was taken out of context. If you listen to the entire interview, there's nothing but respect for gay people and their families. I have many gay friends and one of my closest friends who's like a brother ... The word pervert was not what I meant to say and I am very sorry about it. ... What I meant to say was that gay people are more affectionate and intense and for a segment of the TV audience, this would be too racy to accept. The show is very racy as it is, and I don't let my 5-year-old daughter watch it."

If we're being completely honest, it wasn't exactly a total shocker to see Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson deliver a homophobic rant last month. But now, Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis is under fire for gay bashing! So didn't see that one coming.

He spoke with The TV Page last night, which reports that the former Venezuelan soccer star -- and first minority to hand out roses on a hunt for true love -- is "100 percent opposed to having a cycle of the reality dating show feature an openly gay or bisexual bachelor." While promoting the show at a network party last night, Juan Pablo elaborated ...

I don’t think it is a good example for kids to watch that on TV. Obviously, people have their husband and wife and kids and that is how we are brought up. Now, there is fathers having kids and all that, and it is hard for me to understand that, too, in the sense of a household having peoples ... Two parents sleeping in the same bed and the kid going into bed ... It is confusing in a sense.  But I respect them because they want to have kids. They want to be parents. So, it is a scale ... Where do you put it on the scale? Where is the thin line to cross or not? You have to respect everybody’s desires and way of living. But it would be too hard for TV.

Eek, well, okay ... to play devil's advocate, it seems like he was expressing his more traditional, old-school views, potentially stemming from his upbringing and background. But then it got more cringe-worthy when he described gay people of being "more perverted in a sense." Whaaaaat!? Noooo, JuanPabs!

Agh. Well, maaaybe his perspective is shaped more by ignorance than hate. And you've gotta admit his remarks aren't at all on par with Robertson's vile commentary that cited bestiality and hell. But no matter why JPG responded the way he did,  it's hard to read what he said and not be left with an icky feeling.

ABC execs must know it, too. I'll bet they're collectively smacking their foreheads right now and wanting to wring their leading man's neck, because his comments are anything but good news for the current season of The Bachelor. In fact, I could definitely see some viewers feeling compelled to boycott his season from here on out.

Here are his remarks if you want to hear them for yourself ...

What do you think about Juan Pablo's remarks? Does it change how you feel about him or his season of The Bachelor?
