'Walking Dead' Season 4 Promo Clips Tease Deadly Threat With a Trail of Blood (VIDEO)

Walking Dead season 4I've got good news and bad news, Walking Dead fans. The good news is that AMC has started debuting video teasers of the upcoming fourth season, so we're getting little snippets of action that we can add to what we saw in the season 4 trailer released at Comic-Con. The bad news is that when I say "little snippets," I mean REALLY little. Like fifteen seconds long, and that's including a lingering glance at the show logo, premiere date, and cable channel information. (October 13th. Brought to you by AMC. Where the tagline, ironically, is "Something More.")

Today we'll be examining two recent promo clips, titled "Please help me" and "Found its way in." Both are maddeningly brief, but the second video offers a taste of the buzzed-about new threat that will endanger Rick and the gang in season 4.

Spoilery speculation ahead!

Here's the first promo, "Please help me." Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure its title comes from the dialogue.

This definitely hints at one of the moral choices the show has explored in the past. We don't see who's begging for help, but we get the idea that someone wants into the perceived safety of the group. Let's hope for this disembodied female voice's sake that they treat her better than that poor hitchhiker from last season.

The second promo is titled "Found its way in," and it actually doesn't feature any new footage -- it's pieced together from the Comic-Con trailer. But the focus combined with Hershel's sober voice-over really drives the speculation about what it is we're looking at.

"Everything we've been working so hard to keep out just found its way in," he says, and while the first reaction may be to assume he's talking about walkers (that herd at the fences!), it seems like there's something else going on here. Remember Hershel's speech from the trailer, when he says "We just lost 12 of our own. Two of them were killed in cold blood"? In this promo we get a quick look at a trail of blood and a shadowy figure on the stairs. Are we seeing the aftermath of a zombie attack, or a living murderer? Is he maybe saying that inhumanity has found its way in?

AMC's description for the "Found its way in" clip is this:

Something mysterious threatens the safety at the prison.

More hints can be found in the season description:

In the highly anticipated new season, we find Rick and the group fostering a thriving community in the safe haven of the prison. Sadly, in this brutal world, happiness is short-lived and walkers and outside threats are no match for danger brewing inside the fences. The group’s home and new way of life will be thoroughly tested, and their struggle to survive has never been so perilous.

Mysterious danger inside the fences! And don't forget this from executive producer David Alpert:

(…) we’ll see an evolution of the threat of human-on-human. Dangling the possibility of civilization will make people much more desperate and willing to do things that would have previously been unthinkable.

In the comics, there was a gruesome and incredibly dangerous serial killer in the prison, but Kirkman has flat-out stated that he's not including that part of the story:

I will say that we're not going to be doing the serial killer storyline.

So it's not a psycho killer, but maybe someone driven to commit murder for some other reason, like dwindling resources? Or maybe the Governor, who we know will return in some way, is involved in this mysterious threat?

What do you think about what we're seeing in these Walking Dead promo clips? What 'found its way in'?
