MAJOR 'Walking Dead' Spoilers Dropped About Season 3 Finale (PHOTOS)

If you've been watching The Walking Dead at all this season, you know the storyline has been lurching -- hands outstretched, slobbering undead mouth gnashing -- towards a showdown between the Governor/Woodbury and Rick/the prison. With only two episodes left to go in season 3, everything's got to come to some sort of conclusion soon, even if it's a deeply unhappy, I-can't-believe-they-did-that one.

AMC has always been good about stoking the interest level in the show with juuuust enough teasers, and recently, two people from the show have dropped some interesting hints about what we'll see in the next couple weeks. Apparently the ending "won't be what people will expect" -- and while nearly all of the characters are in major danger of being killed off, there's one person who's completely safe.

(Stop reading here if you want to avoid spoilers!)

Let's start with departing showrunner Glen Mazzara's commentary on the battle that's been building up all season:

Everyone’s in play now, everyone’s on stage, everybody has a stake in it and I think it’ll be a very interesting, surprising ending for the fans. I know it won’t be what people will expect but I think hopefully it’ll be emotionally satisfying.

Intriguing, no? (As a side note, Mazzara opens up a bit in this article about his decision to leave The Walking Dead as the result of “creative differences" with AMC.)

Here's another big tease from Dallas Roberts, who plays Milton:

The Walking Dead fans will not feel cheated by the finale. It's not a soft close for sure. As [the season] starts to wrap up, it gets stronger, crazier and weirder. Although you'll never see it coming, when it cuts to black at the end of season three, there will be millions of mouths agape.

Laurie Holden, who plays the mostly-hated Andrea on the show, has also dished to TV Guide about the bloodshed to come:

(Andrea is) walking on a tightrope, and it's very dangerous. I don't think anybody is safe on this show, to be honest. The only person who's really safe is Carl [Chandler Riggs]. I know that people don't want to hear that, but it's true. There's going to be more major deaths before the end of the season and no one is safe.

Yeah, it would be pretty surprising if they killed Carl off this season. Not that they've been strictly adhering to the comics, but there's a lot of potential story around Carl's character and they've barely focused on him this season.

But ooh, "major deaths." I don't think they'll kill Rick (too integral to the story) or Daryl (too many fans would storm AMC's offices with crossbows), but anyone else seems like fair game. (Although if they stick to the comics at all, they should keep Glenn in order to brutalize us with a truly awful moment somewhere down the road.)

In many ways Andrea seems like an obvious choice, but check out what executive producer David Alpert says:

What happens to Andrea is not what anybody expects.

Here's my best guess: Andrea is going to take the place of Michonne in the comics' storyline, meaning some INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE things will happen to her at the Governor's hands, and we'll all be traumatized and like, Andrea, we're sorry we hated you all season!

(Oh, and I also have a theory about Merle: I think Daryl's going to have to kill him. Maybe he'll be zombified, or maybe he'll just be his bad Merle self, but it's going to be tragic and messed up from Daryl's perspective.)

Finally, here are a few just-released images from the next episode, titled "The Sorrowful Life." They give away nothing, of course, but they're fun to look at and speculate about. (What's up with Glenn and Maggie's sad embrace? Or are they just about to get it on like Inappropriately-Timed Donkey Kong again?)
