'DWTS' Results Recap: Surprising Double Elimination Makes This Season's Winner Obvious

tom bergeron brooke burkeMan. While last night's episode of Dancing With the Stars was nothing but pure entertainment, tonight's results show was a real nail biter, to say the least.

Considering we're just one week away from the semi-finals, the competition is really starting to weigh heavy on the contestants -- because since there are less people to vote for each week, they probably tend to take it a lot more personally when they get voted off the show.

And even though one of the teams that was sent home in tonight's double elimination was kind of expected, the other was pretty darn shocking. (I'll admit that my draw dropped and I may or may not have made a face and said, "WTF?" out loud.)

Not surprisingly, this was the end of the road for Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. There are just way too many amazing dancers left, and sadly, she just wasn't on the same level as the rest of the crew.

But when it came down to the wire and Tom Bergeron announced that Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd were going home instead of Apolo Ohno and Karina Smirnoff, more than a few gasps and boos could be heard echoing through the ballroom.

Seriously? In all of his pure, raw, undeniable hotness -- Gilles still didn't get enough votes to carry him through? What's up with that?

Based on these elimination results, it's pretty easy to tell who is going to win this season. Voters are obviously choosing their picks each week based on talent, not on sympathy, likability, or sexy-as-hell looks.

And that's why Shawn Johnson totally has this thing in the bag. While Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft, Emmitt Smith, and Apolo Ohno are all pretty good and continue to improve each week -- Shawn's been the star of the show from day one. And I'll be absolutely shocked if she doesn't walk away with the mirror ball trophy.

Were you surprised to see Kirstie and Gilles go home? And who do you think is going to win?
