Kailyn Lowry Isn't Going to Let 'Teen Mom' Screw Up Her Future

Kailyn LowryYou've got to hand it to Kailyn Lowry. The Teen Mom 2 star hasn't had the easiest life, but she's quickly emerging as one of the most level-headed young women to grace the reality TV stage. And her latest move is certainly one that should wake her co-stars up.

Little Isaac's mom, who recently got engaged to boyfriend Javi Marroquin, has gotten herself a J-O-B. And I'm not talking about the one that lands her on tabloid covers. It seems Kailyn has figured out that the MTV money train is eventually going to leave the Lowry station.

Kailyn has picked up shifts at PetSmart's grooming salon. Asked by a fan on Twitter why she'd even bother, considering the Ka-Ching she must be bringing in from the network, Kailyn's answer was simple, honest, and incredibly refreshing:

I want to work.

Hallelujah, Amen! We have got ourselves a role model, America!

In many ways, the stars of Teen Mom remind me of young athletes. They've been thrust just as suddenly into the national spotlight, and just as suddenly given an income they would never before been able to access. Blowing their money is oh, so tempting. And we've certainly seen it happen (cough, Jenelle Evans, cough, cough).

But while the series of Teen Mom specials over the past few weeks have made it pretty clear that the channel has a rather different meaning for "canceling" a show than the rest of us (are we done yet MTV??), the end of the first edition of the reality series has made it pretty clear this is not meant to be a lifelong career for these girls.

Even if MTV is paying the $280,000 a year salary Amber Portwood once claimed in court, it's impossible to stockpile enough of that to last the rest of your life. These girls can't sit around pretending Teen Mom is the be all and end all unless they want a very rude awakening on the other side.

They need to work. They need to work to support their families, and they need to work because they need to be good examples for their kids.

So far at least Kailyn is doing it right, and Farrah Abraham certainly has her fingers in a variety of pots these days to support little Sophia ... beyond her alleged hopes that she will be able to marry a doctor. And of course there's the rumor that Leah Messer Calvert's husband brings in some incredible cash in his job to keep their little family afloat.

But what about the rest of them? Will they take heed of what Kailyn's doing? Or are they going to fall flat on their faces?
