Shark Week 2012: What to Watch & When

shark weekThe 2012 Olympics just barely ended and it's already time for Shark Week on the Discovery Channel! The 25th anniversary, too. OMG, is anyone going to leave their house in August? Shark Week is a celebration of the awesome power that is the shark as Discovery airs shark-themed programming every evening. But there's so much more: Online videos, an iPad app, even shark bingo!

So how do you decide how you'll engage in total sharkitude this week if you have, say, a job and parental responsibilities? And which shows look the most appealing? Here's our own opinionated guide.

Sharks for your tween: Mythbusters Jawsome Shark Special, Monday 10:00 p.m. e/p. My 8-year-old is a huge Mythbusters fan and I'm sure he'd be all over this special. Adam and Jamie count down their 25 shark myths and take on new ones. It's total nerd Nirvana!

Sharks for movie buffs: How Jaws Saved the World, Tuesday 9:00 p.m. e/p. The movie Jaws didn't just change how movies are made. It changed how people see sharks and even created a massive boost in shark sciences. Jaws wasn't entirely good for sharks -- but we're a whole lot more interested in them because of the flick.

Sharks for conservationists: Great White Highway, Thursday 9:00 p.m. e/p. Did you know that great white sharks gather near San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge every year for a spell? Biologists track the sharks' migration patterns throughout the year. Also, check out the Save Sharks page with links to conservation programs, facts, and more so you can get involved and help protect your favorite sea creature.

Sharks for oversharers: Check in on GetGlue every time you watch a Shark Week show. Tweet using the #sharkweek hashtag to have conversation with other people obsessed with sharks. Snap a photo of yourself doing your best chomping pose and post to Twitter using #PhotoChomping -- you could win best photo!

Will you be tuning in for Shark Week? What are you watching?
