But that doesn't stop many of us from thinking social media stalking is an acceptable activity to engage in, even whilst attempting to get over someone. Thankfully, Teen Mom's Maci Bookout knows better.

Following what appeared to be a dramatic split -- involving a sketch-tastic nude photo requests from her supercross racer BF Kyle Regal to Maci's friend, country singer Cady Groves -- Maci's made it official on Twitter. Not with chatty tweets about the breakup, but by unfollowing Regal and deleting all of their mushy photos from her Instagram/Twitter feed.

Good. Call. Maci!

More from The Stir: ‘Teen Mom’ Maci Bookout Needs to Keep New Boyfriend Away From Her Son

Oh, sure, it's tempting to keep on following an ex on Twitter or Facebook. (Sheesh, even if you're not following the person or they don't use those sites, you might consider Googling them -- even once in a blue moon!) But cutting off those connection is one of the best ways to make sure you actually have the distance you need to get over the person. And how do you stand a chance if you're constantly seeing what they ate for breakfast, where they checked in, or worse yet, who they're flirting with now?

And maybe it seems unnecessary or cruel, but Maci was wise to trash the lovey-dovey photos of herself with Kyle that had dominated her Twitter feed. After such a bitter breakup, who would want to have those hanging out online as a sad reminder of what used to be?

Simply put, social media is meant for keeping tabs on people you want to maintain a relationship with. When a relationship is already dead in the water -- as it certainly seems to be with Maci and Kyle -- keeping tabs on that person is more toxic trouble than its worth. Although unfollowing an ex should be a no-brainer, but it's easier said than done. Thank goodness Maci had the sense to just do it.

Be honest: Have you immediately unfollowed exes on Facebook/Twitter post-breakup or continued to stalk follow their updates and tweets?
