Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino Enters Rehab & ‘Jersey Shore’ Will Never be the Same

Mike It was bound to happen at some point. After five seasons of wildly boozing it up on Jersey Shore, one of the cast mates has realized the party must end. According to TMZ, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is currently in rehab where he checked himself in for substance abuse issues.

A rep for The Sitch won't confirm it's rehab that he's in, rather they said he "has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule." That usually means the same thing, but we'll give him the benefit of the doubt ... as difficult as that may be after his increasingly despicable and bizarre behavior.

This past season especially, he's become so mean, calculating, and clueless, that it's almost to his benefit if he can blame some sort of substance for his actions. Claiming a real bona fide problem was behind his bad behavior is a lot more forgivable than just being a wretched human being. I'm not saying this move is a PR strategy, but if it were, it wouldn't be a bad one. Hopefully, he's truly getting treatment for whatever ails him for the right reasons, not just for his image. If the two happen simultaneously, well then even better I suppose.

But what about Jersey Shore? MTV just announced yesterday that filming for season six will start this summer. A pregnant Snooki was already going to slow things down when it came to the only thing the roommates really do -- party. How is a sober Sitch going to fit into all of this? What will they do if not dance/fall all over Karma and down Ron Ron Juice? No offense, but there's not a lot of depth there with which to deal.

I'm scared for this new season, but also incredibly intrigued ... which brings us right back to that whole idea of a PR move. The timing is certainly uncanny as this announcement lines up ever so nicely with the cast reunion on Thursday. In any case, I'm sure he'll have plenty to say about this whole situation at some point in the future.

Are you surprised to learn that The Situation is in rehab? Do you think he's doing it for publicity purposes or that he's truly seeking help?
