'Real Housewives of Atlanta' Recap: Phaedra Shows Her Crazy Side Again

Phaedra Parks and Apollo NidaWhen Phaedra Parks first joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta, she was nuts, plain and simple. From her bizarre pregnancy/porn portraits to her absolutely insane, over-the-top baby shower (do you remember the dress code and the dancing ballerinas performing alongside her?), she was eccentric as all get out. Then suddenly this season, she's been the voice of reason.

While on the trip to South Africa, she was the only one not to get involved in the drama. She's been charming, funny, and surprisingly normal and delightful to watch this season. But tonight, when it came to her son Ayden's first birthday party, she showed us that inner crazy person we first saw is still in there just waiting to get out when the time is right.

Clearly she has some sort of weird party problem in which she defaults to too much and over the top. For baby Ayden's birthday there were no less than four party planners involved in organizing the event. Four. There was a bus chartered to take guests to the party at a water park, because it was two hours away from Atlanta. No wonder Sheree was the only one who showed, though she wasn't a very gracious guest.

The crowning moment, however, came at cake time. Or rather cakes time. Ayden was presented with not just one cake, or even two, but rather he was served up a cake for every month of his life -- 12 in all. I thought I'd seen all the outrageous birthday parties possible, but 12 cakes ... well, that takes the cake.

While it was crazy, it was also nice to see a little of the old Phaedra there. I can't wait to see the christening next week.

The rest of the show was made up of little reconciliations and loose ends being tied up. Cynthia Bailey and her sister, Mal, had it out. Mal kind of, sort of apologized and said she'd start focusing on her own life (it's about time!) before she headed back to Paris. Kandi Burruss and Kim Zolciak made nice; and NeNe Leakes was still dragging her feet about whether to divorce Gregg or not.

In a nice move, Marlo Hampton redeemed herself by retracting her lie and telling Lawrence she did indeed use the "F" word that rhymes with maggot. He made her promise to never say it again, and it was good for her to at least own her mistake.

Meanwhile, Kandi Burruss was in Nashville making music with country star Joe Dee Messina. While they sounded good together and both have beautiful voices, the lyrics to that song "If Money Grew on Trees" were about as ridiculous as any I've heard, "Red Solo Cup" aside.

All in all it was a pretty tame episode with no major fireworks. Oh well, there's always next week.

What did you think of the party Phaedra Parks through for her son's first birthday party? Do you think NeNe and Gregg will eventually divorce? What did you think of Kandi's song?
